Presumptive Disability

The Social Security Administration (SSA) supports Americans whose disability has affected their earning ability. That is made possible through programs such as the Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), and the Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Once an individual feels that they need any financial assistance from Social Security, they're required to claim disability benefits. After application, the SSA goes through the claim before deciding whether to approve or deny it.

At National Disability Benefits, we assist potential beneficiaries in getting approved by the SSA. By providing information concerning social security disability and guiding our clients through the process, a lot of people are able to access the help they need. For instance, many may not know there are some special programs set aside by the administration, such as the presumptive disability (PD) benefits. We can help you know if you’re eligible for PD or other disability benefits, and support you throughout your application process.

What are Presumptive Disability Benefits?

PD benefits are offered to individuals who apply for the SSI. People who qualify for SSI usually have low income, with little to no earnings record. An SSI applicant is deemed suitable for PD if their condition is so obvious and does not require further medical evidence. These benefits are offered while the SSA continues working on the disability benefits claim.

Conditions that are Considered for PD

Only severe conditions of disability qualify for PD benefits. They include:

  • Stroke
  • Total blindness
  • Severe mental retardation
  • Terminal illness
  • Double amputation

These benefits are sustained for a period of half a year. On receiving SSI benefits, you will stop receiving PD benefits. Note that if your claim is denied, the PD payments will also stop.

How Can You Get Expedited Disability Benefits?

Just like you need to apply for the SSDI and the SSI, you also need to do the same for PD. Applying for PD benefits is done when you file your Social Security Income claim with the SSA. The Disability Determination Services agency at the Social Security Administration will then decide whether your disability is severe enough. In some cases, the SSA office where you file your claim may make the decision themselves.

A lot of Americans may not know about how to go about the process, let alone how to access such expedited disability payments. That’s why at National Disability Benefits, we avail such important information. The application process can take long, and having PD benefits will help ease your financial burdens.

Knowledge is Power

The reason why only about 40% of initial disability benefit claims are approved is due to lack of knowledge on social security law. There are several requirements by the SSA, and excluding even one tiny detail can cost you your benefits.

National Disability Benefits will guide you through the process to increase your chances of making your claim successful. With a free disability evaluation, we will tell you whether you qualify for any of the benefits programs by the SSA.
