The Compassionate Allowances (CAL) Initiative and How It Can Help You

The CAL initiative is designed to help the Social Security Administration (SSA) expedite the waiting period for individuals applying for Social Security benefits.

It is meant to help those with the most serious disabilities reach a disability determination from the SSA faster enabling those individuals to get the benefits they need in a timely manner.

Ultimately if you fall under this program, it means that your disease or condition meets the Social Security’s statutory standard for disability thus making it easier for the SSA to determine your eligibility.

The conditions required by CAL include certain cancers, adult brain disorders, and a number of rare disorders that affect children. To see a full list of CAL conditions, please click here.

Please note, you don’t have to fall under the CAL program in order to receive disability benefits. Social Security Disability benefits is specifically designed to help those who are unable to work due to a disability and who have contributed in the past.
